Kevin's Background

Kevin Weedmark is the long-time owner and publisher of the Moosomin World-Spectator, Plain & Valley and Ag News. Kevin has been an active member of the community in the Moosomin region for over 35 years.

Kevin has a long history of rolling up his sleeves and doing the work required to serve his community. In his role with the World-Spectator, he has spent many, many hours interviewing federal, provincial, and municipal politicians about issues that concern the Moosomin region.

Most recently he has advocated tirelessly for the Moosomin Airport Expansion, which has allowed for the Saskatchewan Air Ambulance to land in Moosomin and expand health care services.

He has spent time reporting overseas in Afghanistan, Vietnam and the Philippines. When the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021, Kevin worked tirelessly to get his former interpreter, Qasem Sediqi and his family, out of Afghanistan, and they are now safely living in Canada.

On issue after issue, Kevin has worked to make things right. When Statistics Canada undercounted many rural Saskatchewan communities in the last census, he did the research and proved to Statistics Canada its numbers were wrong, and the federal agency revised several communities’ counts upwards. When Ukrainian students were having to pay international student fees despite having moved to Saskatchewan, Kevin raised the issue and within two weeks it was resolved. When there was an employment issue at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre, Kevin reached out to the Premier’s office, the health minister’s office and three local MLAs, and the issue was resolved by the Premier’s office within five hours. Kevin has the contacts, connections, and research skills to fix problems.
